Howdy,
The signs of spring have arrived and a new shooting season is a upon us.
At the Annual meeting, we decided to bring back the gunfighter category after a long hiatus.
The gunfighter class is the only class that allows two loaded revolvers out at the same time, both revolvers can also be cocked at the same time, but only fired one at a time.
The other new class is Wild Bunch (WB). Any full size single stack steel frame 1911 style semi-auto pistol in .45 ACP caliber can be used. The 1911 spec requirements can be found on the SASS website in the Wild Bunch handbook or on the website
The Wild Bunch is shot as either a side match or as a stand alone main match competition in SASS. The Long Riders will make it a regular shooting category, which will be shot at the same time as the cowboy stages with the same target sequences. However, the WB will have two sub categories. Traditional will be WBT and Modern will be WBM. Also, WB competitors will not compete against any other cowboy categories.
The LR rules for WB are a little different than the standard SASS match rules. We will allow any SASS legal main match rile and shotgun. Also the shotguns will not be Preloaded!!!!
At the loading table the WB shooter will load two magazines with five rounds each. One magazine will be loaded in the 1911 and the pistol will be holstered . There will be no racking of a round in the chamber!!!!!!
After shooting the 1911 string, the magazine is removed and then the pistol will be placed on a table or prop. After the shooter finishes the stage, the Timer Operator will clear the gun and then the slide is returned to battery. The gun is holstered until the next stage. Ammo for the 1911 is the same as cowboy - Lead Bullets Only.
The attire for WB can be either Cowboy or Rough Rider. For types of holsters that can be used, check the Wild Bunch for Dummies web site.
See you down the trail!
