How about that folks?! We finally got to shoot in the open!! But, because it was going to be so hot, we decided to put up the canopies for those who don’t have umbrellas on their gun carts. The next time we set up canopies, we’ll position them closer to the stage and center them to stage as well.

We had a great turn out with 34 shooters for our June shoot. This means that everything moved along quite smoothly as far as the posses go. Shooting was only a few minutes late starting, so that’s not bad. Lunch took a little longer than is normal due to the heat and people walking a little slower back to the club house.

Set up was handled by the usual people . . .Elk Creek Ken, Sandy Steele, Fuller beans, Raunchy Rick, Loco Poco Lobo, Nawlins Kid, Jeremiah Grimm, Shorty Morty, Cactus Jack, and Rick O Shay. Thanks pards!!! Excellent job as always.

We had 2 real “crack shooters” . . William Clemnos and Shotgun Ron who shot ALL 4 stages clean!!! Way to go there!

It seems like people are loosing quite a bit of brass. To help solve this problem, we’re going to move the carpets further past the firing lines in order to keep the brass outta the grass!

Tear down went quite smooth despite the fact we didn’t have our full size trailer and had to use our mini trailer. Putting the targets, tables, etc. away in the new shed, was a LOT easier and faster than having to put things up into the trailer. The new shed is definitely an improvement for us and our club!

Greetings Pardners!

How about that May shoot weather?? We were all set for rain and all we got was sunshine!! It was pretty nice shooting in the shade. We had enough shooters for two posses, although we started a little late again. This seems to happen every time we shoot in the shade.

Speaking of starting late, registration is suppose to end at 9AM. So how about making an effort to there, with your equipment ready, BEFORE 9am?!.

As you’ll see when you come to the June shoot, the new shed is in place. Hopefully this week or next, we will have the inside of the shed set-up with shelves and racks for the targets and stands.

We are planning to get more stone placed in front of the shed to make access easier. There will be a work day to spruce up the area, when we get a set date and pizza will be provided for workdays.

Don’t forget that you will get a coupon if you come out on Sat. to help with the set-up . This coupon that will take $5.00 off your shooting fee.

Looking forward to seeing you’all in June!

Raunchy Rick

PS - Donations will be accepted and appreciated to help cover the cost of the shed.

Greetings Pardners!

For the last shoot of the year we had 23 cowpokes who shared a very windy and chilly day. Everyone seemed to enjoy the pumpkin shoot! Though, it was noted, that a few enjoyed it even MORE when they used deer slugs on their pumpkins!!

The turkey shoot “winners” were: Phooey, Levi Otis and Sandy Steel. Nice shooting!!

The “dish to pass” turned out quite well too with a lot of GREAT food! THANKS to all the fine cooks and THANKS to Kalamity Jeanne, Lucky Lady, Calamity Janet, and Grimms’ Better Half for helping with the food set up. ( I do apologize, if I missed anyone.) I understand the ladies had lots of fun a ‘gabbing while the food was a cookin’!

Seems like our 2009 Long Riders Shooting “season” went by awfully fast!! I want to be sure to THANK all the folks we shot with this year for all their help with the set-ups and tear-downs. It makes a big difference when everyone pitches in!! And THANKS to all who did “double duty” those times we were a little short of workers in the posses.

Hope to see you ‘all next year at the annual club meeting. We will bring the coffee and you bring ideas on how we can improve our matches!

Howdy Pardners!

Well, it looks like the new 10 x 20 canopy worked just fine to keep the rain off us for the Sept. shoot. We only had 23 shooters, which meant we had a minimum number of folks for 2 posses, but every thing worked out just fine!! THANKS to all you folks who went the extra distance and filled in where it was needed. I’m very impressed with you!!!

We did get started a little later than usual, but we got to lunch just after noon! Unfortunately, the heavens opened up before we could get back to the pavilion. Still, other than that . . . no problems. I’d like to thank Hawker John for going and getting my slicker from my car. Otherwise, it could have been a very wet walk back to the pavilion for this cowboy.

After lunch we shot the last stage and again, you all pitched in and got every thing picked up, “rounded up” and stored in a timely fashion. Great work by some great cowpokes!! Thanks to each and every one of you for your help.

September’s “sharp shooters” were Rev. Dave Clayton and Phooey. Both shot all stages clean!! Nice going guys!!!

October will be our last shoot for this year. You’ll need a pumpkin for our annual “PUMPKIN TOSS” AND . . . there will be a “TURKEY SHOOT” with Wegman’s gift certificates for prizes. And, while you’re planning and looking forward to a real good shoot, don’t forget that October is our “DISH TO PASS” shoot. If you have any questions about what food to bring, you can give me a call at (585) 342-5569. So come hungry! And don’t forget to BRING YOUR HONEY or your “better half” ’cause there will be plenty of GOOD FOOD to share and LOTS of FUN for ALL.

Hello Pardners!

How about that?! The Three Day Shoot has come and gone!! We had a good turn out this year with 43 registered shooters. The set-up was a little longer than usual. It took us 5 1/2 hours but we had the help of 15 hard working cowpokes! Thanks to one & all. We owe a special thanks to Lefty for setting-up and running the” fun shoot” to start things off Friday. Thanks Pard!

Aug. gave us some real HOT weather this year, so to make it more comfortable for everyone, we set up canopies at each stage. The only feed back we received was that ” they could be a little closer to the firing line”. This is what we need to know from you folks. We can’t improve things unless we hear from you. So, keep the feed back coming!

Speaking of making it more comfortable for you , we went through 78 pounds of ice and 40 gal. of water!! When it’s HOT it’s HOT!!! Thank God, for bits of shade and lots of ice cold water!! Think everyone breathed a sigh of relief when it was cooler, Sunday, for our last day of the shoot.

To let those of you know who did not stay for our Sat. meal, it was great!!! It arrived hot, delicious and ready to serve. We of course were ready to eat! Even Heavy Bear agreed, because he knows good food when he sees it. Lord knows he hasn’t missed too many meals!

But don’t get on his wrong side. He’s a Bear that can’t miss – at least at the 3-Day Shoot! Congratulations to Heavy Bear for a clean shoot! Also congratulations to Cactus Rattler, Ironeyes Cody, Deputy Cook, Trouble Shooter, and Jeremiah Grimm! They are at the top of their classes!

We welcomed our first junior shooter Little Whiskey to his first full shoot and first 3-Day Shoot. He got lots of respect when he shot a clean stage!!! Think he may be putting a little pressure on his dad ole Whiskey Wells. They are both top notch Cowpokes and real good workers! Glad to have them our side.

Remember, October will be our last shoot for this year and we are asking everyone to bring a “dish to pass” . It’s been a great way to celebrate another good year of shooting with the finest group of cowpokes anywhere!!

This October the Vile Bunch and all the Long Riders are extending a warm invite to all the “better halfs” to come and join us for our October “dish to pass” feast. Hope to see you all there!!! The more the merrier !!

Looking forward to seeing you in September.

Hi Pards!

I want to start by THANKING Trader Mose who donated a 10 by 20 canopy to our club!! This canopy works to protect our fine looking Long Riders from the cold rain and scorching sun. As it turned out we utilized it for our July shoot and the shade from the canopy and pavilion felt pretty good!!!

How about all that setup we did for RAIN and all that SUNSHINE we got instead??! Guess things worked out fine just the same.

Because we only had 23 shooters, our posse size was at a minimum. That meant that everyone had to do more than one job. It was very impressive how everyone pitched in, worked and did more than their share – without one complaint. Thanks to you all!!!

The usual crew showed up Saturday for set-up, except for Elk Creek Ken, who had a medical problem. We hope you feel better real soon Ken.

The shoot went quite well. Lunch break was at noon. We left the range hot so that anyone who wanted to shoot, could do so. Shooting was done by 1:45 PM and the tear down was completed by 2:30 PM. Again, thanks to all for your help with this.

We’ll be looking forward to hearing all the news from Loco Poco Lobo and Nawlins Kid about the SASS regional shoot they attended in New Hampshire. Rumor has it that they hobnobbed with EVIL Roy!!

Looking forward to seeing one & all at the 3-Day Shoot.

Howdy Pards!

June turned out to be another great day for a shoot! Only just a little cooling rain for the tear down. We had 33 registered shooters. Not bad for a graduation weekend.

Next, there is something that needs to be addressed. It’s something that we do not like harp on. At our shoots we are COWBOYS! and that means we LOOK like cowboys in our dress and of course, we SHOOT like COWBOYS !!! It is all part of the fun! The concern is that a little more effort could be used to appear in more period dress. This means NO cell phone or key chains hanging from your belt. Cowboys had different things like GUNS & knives & ammunition pouches hanging from their belts! Because mostly, they just had shootin’ on their mind!! Also, cowboys had more FREEDOM from time. So, if you have to wear a wrist watch, keep your sleeves down. And, one other thing, cowboys were just too RUGGED to have manufacturer’s logos on there shirts! . . . . Enough said.

We had the usual crew for set-up. THANKS folks!!! You’e the best!!

The Vile Bunch is usually at shoots on Sundays to complete the set up at 8am. Still, with the hot weather approaching, we are going to have days when we’ll want to put the canopies up at all the stages. Having the canopies up helps to provide some cooling shade for those folks who don’t have gun cart umbrellas. Also, we could use some help to set up the new pistol targets on Sunday mornings. This would help us all to get started on time. We’d sure WELCOME your company and your help on Sunday mornings if we’ve got any other cowpokes who are “early risers” & who can lend a hand.

Looking forward to seeing you on July 26th.

Howdy Pards!

Our May shoot turned out to be another nice day for shooting. We had a good turnout .. . 31 shooters. We pretty much started on time. We didn’t have any major problems with any of the stages. Think everyone enjoyed themselves which is our goal.

It even worked out so that there was enough time for some of the folks to shoot 3 different scenarios on the long range. The new targets worked fine, but we will be doing some “tweaking” of them to make them more reactionary and noisy.

Set up was accomplished with the help of the following people: Lefty, Shorty Morty, South Dakota Slim, Loco Poco Lobo, Nawlins Kid, Jeremiah Grimm, Badfinger, Raunchy Rick, Sandy Steele, and Cactus Jack. Great job!

I would like to give a special thanks to Badfinger for weedwacking where all the carpets go, so we have a more stable surface.

Take down on Sunday was finished within 20 to 30 minutes because of all the good help we had. Your help really makes a difference and it is appreciated.

Plan on seeing you’all for the June shoot Sunday, June 28th. Bring lots of ammo because I know Jeremiah is going to use all the steel we have!

Vayos Con Dios compadres!!!

Howdy Pardners!

We had a good turn out for our April shoot and good weather to boot! We had 31 shooters – several were new to us. And, we had our first “junior shooter” . . . “Little Whiskey” – who did very well in all aspects, especially in safety.

We had an excellent showing of support for our first set up of the year. Thanks to the following 12 people: LPL, Raunchy Rick, William Clemmens, Elk Creek Ken, Jeremiah Grimm, Nawlins Kid, Bad Finger, Cactus Jack, Sandy Steel, South Dakota Slim, Lone Flyer and Shorty Morty. This first set up took a little longer than usual because some of the people had to leave early for previous engagements. But it felt good to start another year of shooting.

We tested our new target on stage one. The only concern we had related to this new target is that it is not as loud when it is hit as our old targets were. But it can still be heard as long as the counters pay close attention.

We achieved our goal of starting on time with this first shoot of the year and we plan to continue doing so.

Our “dish to pass” meal was a success. The food was great and there was plenty of it! Our compliments & thanks to all the cooks.

Look forward to seeing you’all in May. Feel free to bring a friend.

PS – Sorry about the 10 minutes of rain during teardown. I tried my best.
