Well, it is that time of year again. It is amazing how quickly our shooting season goes by. Although the annual meeting and Long Rider elections are not until February (day will be set and announced at a later date), it is time to start thinking about what you would like to see the club do next year.
As always, if you have any feedback (good or bad), please tell me or another Vile Bunch member. If you have some spare time and would like to help the club out, you do not have to hold an office or position, just let one of us know how you would like to help.
We still have some targets and stands for sale for $30 a set (base, upright, target head, and a stake) and will have them available in the spring for purchase. Please help the club out by clearing out the old steel!
The 2012 Long Riders Membership Application is available here – 2012 Membership Application-Renewal. Even if you are a lifer, please fill it out as we like to keep the emergency contact information fresh.
See ya out on the range- in the Spring and at the membership meeting in February!

We had a great turnout for the 3-Day Shoot. Several people said they had a good time, which is always the Vile Bunch’s goal.
The Turnbull Open Range Revolver went to Don Szydlo. The second prize of $250 went to Pecos Kid. Congratulations to both winners! Thanks to all the donations, the Vile Bunch purchased new steel stands and targets to replace some of the rifle stands and targets. We will have some stands and targets available for purchase at the September shoot.

Hope you enjoyed the July Shoot! From what I hear, it wasn’t as HOT as it was in New Hampshire, where N.K. and were in July.
Hope you are ready for the 3-Day shoot! The Shortsville Rod & Gun Club is prepared to serve breakfast on Saturday and Sunday mornings for a fee. Please support them! Also, we are going to try something new this year. Saturday night after the catered BBQ dinner, we will have – Midnight Movie Madness (just a little bit earlier)! The Vile Bunch will have some good ole westerns and microwave popcorn. You can BYOB (bring your own beverage), candy, or whatever you like to eat when watching movies.
We need your help in obtaining more Turnbull gun raffle donations. Do you have any friends or family that would be interested in a new revolver or $250 for second prize? Please contact Calamity Janet for tickets or bring their money with you to the 3-Day Shoot and fill ‘em out for them!

In case you did not notice the Long Rider monthly shooting fees have changed. Monthly shoot fees are now $5, $10, $15 for Long Rider/Shortsville, either Long Rider or Shortsville, or neither Long Rider/Shortsville members respectively. Time to get ready for another great shootin’ season!
The Vile Bunch held the Annual Membership meeting at the end of February. We had a bit of input on things for the year, said thank you to Jeremiah Grimm for his years as Scenario Hand, and started to plan for 2011. For more details, see the article with the summarized minutes.
Don’t forget to bring your money to buy a gun raffle donation. If you cannot make the May 1st shoot, contact Calamity Janet for Turnbull gun raffle donations.
In case you did not read the Annual Meeting Minutes elsewhere in the newsletter, please note that our Long Rider monthly shooting fees have changed. Monthly shoot fees are now $5, $10, $15 for Long Rider/Shortsville, either Long Rider or Shortsville, or neither Long Rider/Shortsville members respectively. We still encourage everyone to become a Long Rider and help the club, but we hope the reduced “non-member” fee will encourage more people to come out and have fun shooting with us!
Last, but not least, we have a new Scenario Hand – Lucky Dog! I am sure you will give him the same respect that you gave Jeremiah Grimm, but let him know how you like the scenarios!
See you out on the range, Sunday, May 1st!

Happy New Year! I hope everyone had a wonderful and safe holiday season.
The New Year gives everyone a fresh start and thoughts turn to planning vacations and activities for the year. Remember to earmark the 4th Sunday of the month from May through October for the monthly Long Riders shoot. Since our April shoot falls on Easter Sunday, we will have the April shoot on Sunday, May 1st. Don’t forget to book your vacation for Friday, August 26th through the 28th for the Annual Long Riders Three-Day Shoot. We will be determining the theme for this year at the Annual Meeting in February.
Please plan on attending the Annual Long Riders meeting to voice your choice(s) and help the Vile Bunch plan 2011. It will start at 10:00 AM at the Shortsville Rod & Gun Club on Saturday, February 26th. The clubhouse will be open after 9 AM and we will have some refreshments available. We need you to get out and VOTE on your officers for 2011 and help us set the direction for the new shooting year. Remember, our club operates under modified S.A.S.S. rules according to the way the majority of our members prefer.
The nominations for the 2011 year are as follows:

Foreman (Vice President) –Raunchy Rick a.k.a. Richard Shultz
Paymaster (Treasurer) – Calamity Janet a.k.a. Janet Travis
Clerk (Secretary) – Cactus Jack a.k.a. Gregory Travis
Safety Officer – Nawlins Kid a.k.a. Samuel Andolino
The following members are willing to accept appointments for 1 year to the board:

We wrapped up another Long Riders season. Everyone enjoyed the Indian Summer shoot and potluck lunch. Although the annual meeting and Long Rider elections are not until February (day will be set and announced at a later date), it is time to start thinking about what you would like to see the club do next year.
Would you like to write a story for the newsletter? Have an idea to make a scenario more fun with a prop? These are just a couple of things you could do to help the club, especially if you are physically unable to help with some of the tasks of running/supporting the club. Although we have elected/appointed officers, they could always use new ideas or a break during the shooting season.
Cactus Jack has written Old West stories for a couple of years now and his “well” has run dry. Also, we have not had a formal Props Hand for a couple of years and the Vile Bunch has been filling in. A couple of our Vile Bunch officers are willing to continue to run the club, but could use a break in designing and creating props as well as maintenance out at the range. Think about how you can help out. Talk to a Vile Bunch member to find out what role you might be willing to take on.
It is also that time of year to send in your membership application. Please click on the link below in the newsletter to fill out the form, then send your check with the emailed copy of the completed form to Calamity Janet (her address will be on the email confirmation after you submit the form). Even if you are a Life Member, please fill it out as we would like to have Emergency Information – just in case.

It is that time of year again. Fall is here and it is time to finish out the Long Riders shootin’ season and start planning for next year. Although the annual meeting and Long Rider elections are not until February (day will be set and announced at a later date), it is time to start thinking about what you would like to see the club do next year.
Do you have a favorite storyline you would like to see as a scenario? Would you like to write a story for the newsletter? These are just a couple of things you could do to help the club, especially if you are physically unable to help with some of the more physical tasks of running/supporting the club. Although we have elected/appointed officers, they could always use new ideas or a break during the shooting season.
Do you want to take a stronger role in running the club? Now is the time to talk to a Vile Bunch member to find out what role you might be willing to take on.

We had a great 2 Day Shoot because unfortunately, Mother Nature had other plans. Everyone looked like they were having a great time and I certainly have not heard any complaints!
It was great to see everyone that could make it out for our big event. We saw several people who have not attended in a couple of years. They all had big smiles on their faces and enjoyed themselves whether they were shooting with assistance from fellow Long Riders, visiting at the BBQ Saturday night dinner or just chatting with folks. As a special note, Mr. Shorty asked me to convey to everyone that he really appreciated everyone stopping by to visit and chat!
For those who did not hear me on Sunday morning of the 3-Day Shoot (hard to believe, I know), anyone who registered to shoot at the 3-Day Shoot will have a free shoot in September. Yes, you read that right – if you registered for the 3-Day, you shoot for FREE in September.
Speaking of fall, it is that time of year to send in your membership application. Please click on the following link to fill out the form, then send your check with the emailed copy of the completed form to Calamity Janet (her address will be on the email confirmation after you submit the form). Even if you are a Life Member, please fill it out as we would like to have Emergency Information – just in case.

Last, but not least, I would like to thank Shorty Morty for donating part of his Sunday for the work party. Also, a big thank you to Cactus Jack, Calamity Janet, Kalamity Jeanne, Nawlins Kid, and Raunchy Rick for donating their entire Sunday with me to replace the entire protective covering on the back of the facade above the tractor trailer. It was a long process and we had to fight bees/wasps, but we sorely needed it to maintain our ambiance.
We could still use some help on the facade. Since it was getting late Sunday, we did not get to caulk the seams on the back of the facade. If you can spend about an hour or so, please show up at the setup for the September shoot at 9 AM. We could really use the help!

The date for the 3-Day Shoot is just around the corner. Get yer guns and duds ready!
Nawlins Kid and I just got back from “The Great Nor’easter” (2010 SASS New England Regional) held in Pelham, NH. Unfortunately, this shoot is always on our July Long Riders shoot and as Territorial Governors, we are required to attend 1 regional match a year.
Just a reminder, we will have a Henry .22 Gallery Rifle (pump gun) for the raffle this year. You do not need to be present to win and tickets will be $5 each or 5 tickets for $20. The 3-Day Raffles and Auction will continue based upon your generous donations. Please bring something cowboy/cowgirl-ish to the shoot. Also, raffle and auction items that significant others and little cowpokes like are appreciated too! Given the state of the economy, vendor donations are down, but we hope club members will help out with their own donations.
The raffle items will be setup Saturday morning while we shoot and tickets will be available for purchase at lunchtime on Saturday. We will continue to have 2 different colored tickets at 50 cents and $1 levels. And don’t forget the 50/50 raffle – it is a quick and easy way to donate to the club and maybe share in half the proceeds. Your odds are certainly much better than the Lotto!
Back by popular demand, the Cowboy Casino will be in the Clubhouse after the catered dinner, if there is enough interest. Casino cowboy and cowgirl workers will be limited to bidding on 1 item at the auction, so if you volunteer, make that bid count. Participants can bid on any number of prizes using pazoozas. A banker will be available to convert your dollars to Pazoozas, in case you lose your shirt at the table with your Trail Earnings (pazoozas in your packet).
If you haven’t paid for the 3-Day Shoot, please send a printout of the emailed confirmation with your check to:

Sunday, August 8th is the last day to sign up for a badge with your alias OR the 3-Day dinner. We will still accept registrations to shoot until Sunday, August 15th.
Last, but not least, I want to thank those who read the newsletter and showed up to help with the special 3-Day work party. Thank you to Cactus Jack, Calamity Janet, Jeremiah Grimm, Loco Poco Lobo, Nawlins Kid, Raunchy Rick, and Willam Clemnos!
See you out on the range!

The new shed is working out well! It looks like it will not only help us organize our targets and stands better, but also cut down a little bit with setup/tear-down. It certainly will help those of us with bad backs from fighting with the uprights and bases and stooping to get the target heads.
If you haven’t already sent Jeremiah Grimm your favorite scenarios, please do so now. Jeremiah and the Vile Bunch are finalizing the scenarios for the 3-Day Shoot. Here is the link to this year’s 15th 3-Day Shoot (snail-mail friends see the attachment).
3-Day Application
We will have a work party on Saturday, August 7th, with a rain date of Sunday, August 15th. Pizza will be provided to feed the workers. We will be cleaning up the range, making some minor repairs, sprucing up the props, taking an inventory of the trailer, and matching braces with props.
Last, but not least, we have a slightly re-designed website. It is more secure and will provide more functionality to our members. If you encounter any problems, please contact the webmaster. Please specify which internet browser you use, the version, what you were looking at and the error message or problem you encountered. If you can take a snapshot and email it, that would help as well.
To printout the scenarios, use the browser’s print functionality under the “File”, “Print” menu. Be sure to use portrait and you may need to “Shrink to Fit” it on the page.

Summer is here and the Vile Bunch have been busy. The base crush was delivered and leveled and the shed was delivered.
 Long Riders - Target Shed
Shelves have been erected and fortified and supports setup for storing the bases. All the steel for the target heads and bases will be moved from the old target trailers to the shed. This will give us more room in the trailer, not to mention make it easier to move the steel around.
The Vile Bunch has picked out a special badge, which will be free to anyone registering for the 3-Day Shoot. If you cannot attend, you will be able to sign up for a badge for $5. Anyone who registers or pays will have their alias on the badge, if you register on time. Here is a mock-up of the badge.
Long Riders - 3 Day Badge
Back by popular demand this year will be Bad to the Bone for the 3-Day Shoot. The standard fare will be 1/4 chicken and ribs, green beans with ham hocks, salt potatoes, cornbread, and dessert. Also, don’t forget to send Jeremiah Grimm your favorite scenarios from the past 15 years. We will be deciding your top 8 picks in the next couple of weeks.
We will probably have a work party in the beginning of August (complete with pizza to feed the workers) to clean up the range, make some minor repairs, and spruce up the props. When the date is set, we will announce it in the July newsletter. Here is the link to this year’s 15th 3-Day Shoot (snail-mail friends see the attachment).

The first shoot is behind us and summer is nearly here.
The Vile Bunch have picked out a special 3-Day Shoot badge, which will be free to anyone registering for the 3-Day Shoot. Anyone who cannot attend will be able to sign up for a badge for $5. Details are being worked out and will be publicized in next couple of weeks when the 3-Day Shoot application is available. Anyone who registers or pays will have their alias on the badge.
We will use the same caterer (Bad to the Bone) for the 3-Day Shoot this year due to the great reviews last year. Jeremiah Grimm is waiting for members to send in their favorite scenarios from the past 15 years, so send them now!
The spot for the new shed was cleared at the April setup. Raunchy Rick is working with Bil Chrysler from Shortsville Rod & Gun Club on the ground leveling and crush for the base of our new shed. We hope to have it set in the next couple of weeks to have the shed delivered in early June. We will then have a work party (complete with pizza to feed the workers) to finish the shed, take an inventory of the trailer and lean-to, and clean them out. When the date is set, we will send a special email to club members. If you are one of our snail-mail friends and would like to help, let us know at the shoot or give Raunchy or L.P.L. a call.

Spring has sprung – a little bit early. The grass is green and the buds are out – time to get the cowboy gear out!
Our Annual Meeting was held at the end of February in between 2 late season snow storms. We still had sufficient number of people attend to constitute a quorum and set the agenda for 2010. See the separate article for details, but here are the highlights:
Young Gun Shoot Fees were set to:
- Long Rider Member AND Shortsville Member $3
- Long Rider Member OR Shortsville Member $5
- Member of neither Long Rider or Shortsville $10
Shooting category names were changed to be consistent with SASS and eliminate confusion for new or visiting shooters familiar with SASS.
- 2 Gun Shootist to Double Dualist (DD)
- Buckaroos to Young Guns (YG)
Also, some members had asked to bring back the Gunfighter (GF) category and add Wild Bunch matches to bring in new people or have “something different”. The membership voted to add Wild Bunch, but with modified SASS rules. The Wild Bunch will be available as 2 separate categories, Wild Bunch – Traditional (WBT) and Wild Bunch – Modern (WBM), and not as a side match. It will not matter if there are enough shooters to make a separate category, the Wild Bunch scores will always be separate! For more details on Long Riders’ requirements for Gunfighter and Wild Bunch, please see Nawlins Kid’s news article.
A proposal was made to allow single gun shooters to reload 5 rounds on the clock as separate categories (1TR for traditional, 1DR for duelist, and 1MR for modern). It was decided that we would poll shooters’ opinions at the April shoot. If you are unable to attend the shoot and would like to voice your opinion, please contact one of the Vile Bunch.
For the 3-Day Shoot, it was decided that the theme would be “15 Years of Long Riders Cowboy Shooting” to celebrate the 15th anniversary. Members suggested that we use our favorite scenarios from the past 15 years, so send ‘em to Jeremiah Grimm. The members also thought it would be a nice touch to obtain special 3-Day badges to commemorate the anniversary. These badges would also be available to folks who cannot attend the 3-Day Shoot for a small fee. The membership asked the Vile Bunch to look into it and set the appropriate price.
Some members have traveled to other clubs’ shoots in New York State and have signed a Release Agreement the 1st time they shoot – to protect the Cowboy club from legal action based upon the shooter’s actions. The membership approved the concept and asked the Vile Bunch to write it for everyone to sign annually, as part of membership renewal. Please click on the link (Release Agreement), print the agreement, fill it out/sign it, and bring it to the shoot. For our non-electronic friends, a copy is attached to this newsletter.
The biggest topic at the Annual Meeting was the state of our grounds and props, and more specifically – the target trailers that are falling apart. The club voted to authorize the Vile Bunch to purchase a pre-built shed to replace the 2 target trailers. At the April setup, we will move the target trailers to temporary spots to make way for the stake-out and preparation of the ground for the shed. We hope that the weather will cooperate to allow the grounds to dry out so that the delivery truck can deliver it in May.
In May, we will have a work party (complete with pizza to feed the workers) to finish the shed, take an inventory of the trailer and lean-to, and clean them out. Tentatively, the date is May 15th, but may change due to delivery schedule of the shed.
See you out on the range!

The end of our shooting season has arrived. Hunting season has started for some and the holidays are nearly upon us. As we all get ready to hibernate through the cold, snowy winter season, let’s take some time to reflect back on our 2009 shooting season.
The Long Riders and Vile Bunch made several changes this year. We bought some new targets, canopies, and water jugs. We brought in a new caterer for our 3-Day Shoot and eliminated some of the 3-Day Shoot expenses. The revamped website also allowed us to eliminate more costs and improve communications. We received a large canopy donation and monetary contributions from our members that helped even though times are tough for some people recently.
The Vile Bunch is getting ready to plan the 2010 season. If you would like to run for an office, volunteer for an appointed position, or just want to volunteer some of your time, please contact me or a Vile Bunch member. Also, if you have any topics you would like to discuss at our Annual meeting in February, please let me know, so I can add it to our agenda.
Don’t forget to fill out your Long Riders 2010 Membership application. After submitting the form, you will receive an email confirming your membership application receipt. Please mail it with your check to our treasurer (her address will be at the bottom of the confirmation email). This emergency contacts and medical information is very important and will only be used in case of emergencies.

The end of our social shooting season is soon. But don’t hibernate yet, we have one more shoot!
For those who are not aware, in inclement weather, we use the pavilion and canopy to setup our stages and keep everything and everyone dry. We plan to utilize less steel and minimize props since the weather may be iffy. That should also minimize the take down so we can get to the clubhouse for our pot-luck lunch finale. We will also be “tarping” up the lean-to for the winter.
For those electronic folks who have said that the newsletters or scenarios do not print out well, please look over on the left-hand side of the screen for the Adobe Icon and the phrase “PDF for Print”. Click on that link to display the PDF version and then print it to your printer.

Also, if you have any topics you would like to discuss at our Annual meeting in February, please let a Vile Bunch member know at the October shoot or send one of us an email. I will add it to our agenda.
